Aaron R. Hand

Aaron Hand is a trial lawyer at Bunsow De Mory LLP in Redwood City, California. His practice focuses on Litigation - Intellectual Property and Litigation - Patent matters, including disputes involving patents and trade secrets across a range of technologies. His work has involved cases related to consumer products, semiconductor processing, data storage, wireless technologies, biologics, and diagnostic products.

Aaron has participated in multiple patent litigation trials and has helped clients navigate complex technical and legal issues in high‑stakes disputes. In one arbitration matter involving trade secret theft and wrongful solicitation, he played a key role in analyzing technical evidence that contributed to an arbitration award exceeding $500 million. In another matter, he defended a well-known lighting brand against patent infringement claims, obtaining summary judgment and favorable Markman rulings that led to dismissal of the case.

In addition to his commercial litigation work, Aaron has handled significant pro bono matters. In 2023, he led one of the firm’s pro bono cases involving voting rights, in which the California Attorney General’s Office authorized a quo warranto filing seeking the removal of three Mission Viejo City Council members from office.

Before entering the legal profession, Aaron worked as a network engineer and computer consultant. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from UCLA, with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering. During his time at UCLA, he worked as a research assistant in the aerosol and nanotechnology laboratory and also served as a designer for the Daily Bruin.

Aaron has been recognized on the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list from 2013–2016 and the Super Lawyers list from 2021–2024. He was also selected for inclusion in U.S. News – Best Lawyers from 2021–2025.

Outside of his legal practice, Aaron has served as a legal fee dispute panel member for the San Mateo County Bar Association. He also supports early childhood education and previously served as a volunteer board member for a nonprofit early childhood development center in Silicon Valley, as well as a liaison for an early childhood development center in Orange County. In his free time, he volunteers as an American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) referee and enjoys rock climbing.
