After graduating from Harvard Law School, Brent co-founded and managed a nonprofit law firm, the Los Angeles Center for Community, Law, & Action, where he protected and advanced the rights of low-income tenants via litigation related to eviction defense, slum conditions, and rent control, as well as through political organization. During this time, Brent helped secure a 1.1-million-dollar verdict on behalf of tenants harmed by discriminatory rental policies.

In 2017, Brent transitioned his practice to counsel and litigate on behalf of small- to medium-sized businesses in a wide range of commercial disputes and employment matters.
