About Brian Sommers
Brian Sommers is a founding partner of Kirkland & Sommers Co. LPA and one of the top family law attorneys in Ohio. Brian’s practice is exclusive to Family Law, and he is highly regarded as an expert in high-conflict custody matters and negotiated solutions. He is sought after by fellow attorneys for representation in their own family law matters, and his client list includes many successful, prominent, community members.
Brian’s practice includes the following:
• Dividing complex marital estates, including closely held businesses, complicated retirement plans, and high compensation plans, plus complex marital estate planning encompassing life insurance trusts and irrevocable trusts;
• Drafting and planning for prenuptial and postnuptial agreements;
• High conflict divorce involving disputed custody cases;
• Post-decree modification for child/spousal support and custody
Brian is licensed to practice in all 88 Ohio counties, but his primary focus is in the greater Dayton and Cincinnati area.
Philosophy
Education is of primary importance to Brian. To achieve a successful outcome, it’s imperative that Brian first educate himself on each individual’s main concerns and fears. Brian has been named a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has also been awarded the prestigious Family Law Specialist Certification by the Ohio State Bar Association, one of approximately 140 such attorneys listed as a OSBA Certified Specialist in Family Relations Law. Brian Sommers is author of Chapter 4, “Martial Obligations and Property Rights” of Baldwin’s Ohio Practice, Sowald & Morganstern Domestic Relations Law.
Additionally, Brian has been named a Super Lawyer every year from 2020 to present, an award bestowed on only the top 5% of lawyers. He has also been named to the Best Lawyers in America list, a peer reviewed selection of the country’s top lawyers, and he has been named Ohio Lawyer of the Year.
