About Brit Benjamin
Before you consider scheduling a consultation, it's essential to gain insight into Brit Benjamin, as she is highly selective in taking on clients. The attorney-client relationship, the foundation of your comfort and success in the dissolution process, must be a strong fit. In this slightly non-traditional attorney bio, the intention is to assist the right clients in finding Brit and guide others to their perfect match.
For Brit, family is at the heart of everything. Contrary to the assumption that a divorce lawyer might be cynical about marriage and family, she holds a deep appreciation for the sanctity of creating and sustaining family bonds. Our society's challenges in nurturing enduring marriages and the lack of skills for choosing the right partner or maintaining a lifelong commitment do not diminish the nobility of family creation. Ending a marriage and reshaping a family system must be approached with equal sanctity.
A divorce can be a painful, terrifying, and overwhelming experience, but it can also be an opportunity for growth and healing. Just like the metaphor of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, it might feel like your world is unraveling, but Brit considers it a privilege to help you emerge from this significant change prepared to thrive on the other side.
Brit is not just an attorney; she's also a divorcée and a mother. Having gone through the very process her clients are now facing, she understands, at the deepest level, the challenges of divorce. She represents her clients with the same sensitivity and diligence she applied to her own dissolution. Beyond that, she comprehends the fragility and fear that often accompany the end of a marriage. Clients require an honest, kind, sharp, and resolute counselor to guide them. Brit honors the dignity of every client by delivering legal excellence, candor, emotional expertise, and a grounded, focused advocacy.
Brit's dedication to family law stems from her profound connection to the concept of family. Even before law school, while exploring a career in law, she worked as a paralegal for Meakins Law, a family law firm in Berkeley. There, she developed a deep affection for divorce law, the clients, and her colleagues. During her legal education, she served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Roberta S. Hayashi in Santa Clara County, gaining invaluable insights into family court operations. She also held roles as the President of Santa Clara Law's Family Law Society and Student Bar Association. After law school, she returned to Meakins Law as an attorney before embarking on the journey to establish her own practice.
Brit holds degrees from UC Berkeley and Santa Clara University School of Law. After graduating from law school in 2017, she joined the Santa Clara Law faculty, teaching courses in Appellate Advocacy, Advanced Legal Writing, and co-teaching Civil Procedure. Her legal scholarship and publications focus on reproductive and life-extension biotechnologies, competitive governance, and economic analysis of law. Brit has also coached ABA Negotiation Competition teams as part of Santa Clara's Honors Moot Court program. Her work has gained recognition in notable publications, including The Recorder, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, and MSNBC, among others.
In her free time, Brit enjoys songwriting and playing guitar, strength training, and embarking on adventures with her 4-year-old daughter.
