Cary M. Snyder

Area of Emphasis
Cary Snyder is a shareholder in the Litigation Group of Babst Calland. He primarily works in the areas of complex commercial litigation and appellate practice. Mr. Snyder has experience in all stages of litigation, from drafting complaints through dispositive motions, discovery, settlement, and trial. He also represents clients in matters before federal and state appellate courts.

Prior to joining Babst Calland, he was an associate in the Cleveland, Ohio office of a full-service regional law firm where he defended colleges and universities in matters involving claims of defamation, breach of contract, and gender discrimination under Title IX, as well as retailers and other businesses in class action litigation. Mr. Snyder also has experience representing media companies to safeguard their right to access public records and court proceedings.

Mr. Snyder was previously an associate for five years in the Pittsburgh office of an international law firm where he focused on complex litigation and government regulatory matters on behalf of health care providers. He also defended one of the big three credit bureaus in claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Background
Mr. Snyder received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was an editor of the Minnesota Law Review. He graduated from Kenyon College with a B.A. in English and History. Mr. Snyder also holds a master’s degree from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

Prior to attending law school, he was a reporter and writer for newspapers and online publications in Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wyoming.

Mr. Snyder is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Ohio and before the United States District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and Northern District of Ohio, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He was selected to the 2020-2021 Ohio Rising Stars lists (Thomson Reuters) and received a Best Lawyers®: Ones to Watch recognition from BL Rankings for Appellate Practice, Commercial Litigation, and Communications Law since 2021.
