Earlier in her career, Courtney litigated in numerous matters involving general liability, premises liability, insurance coverage and bad faith, and aviation law. She was formerly a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, where she worked on appeals related to employment discrimination, civil rights, habeas corpus, immigration, and criminal matters.

She was also a summer judicial clerk in Cobb County Superior Court, a summer law clerk for the Court of Appeals of Georgia, and a summer associate at a law firm in Marietta. Courtney was a press intern in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, and she was a research intern for the state-level political action committee Georgia’s WIN List.

Courtney earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law. During law school, she served as the Executive Articles Editor of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law, and she spent a semester studying at Oxford University.

She also holds two Bachelors of Arts from Louisiana State University in both History and Political Science, where she received the highest academic honor for graduating with a perfect grade point average of 4.0.
