He served as a Senior Deputy District Attorney, for more than 12 years in the Jefferson County SVU (Crimes Against Children Unit), Domestic Violence Unit and Felony Prosecution Unit, as well as a prosecutor in Colorado Springs in El Paso County. Doug is especially well-versed in homicide, violent crimes, and Colorado’s complex sex offender and child abuse laws.Doug graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1986 and The University of Missouri School of Law in 1996, where he was appointed to the Order of Barristers based on his trial advocacy and litigation skills.Before his law career, Doug was a journalist and investigative reporter, covering major crimes and court trials. This experience makes him uniquely skilled at questioning police and other witnesses to elicit critical facts and achieve the best outcomes for his clients.Doug has tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases, including homicides, sexual assaults, child abuse, domestic violence, drug distribution and possession, robberies, assaults, fraud, and theft. He has also represented hundreds of parents in domestic relations and dependency and neglect cases in the Denver Metro area, both as a private counsel and state-appointed attorney.
