Greg Placone

Greg provides legal counsel to construction industry professionals, including contractors, owners, developers, and manufacturers. A significant portion of Greg’s practice involves federal government contracts related disputes, including those involving the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). Greg’s background in complex litigation affords him valuable insight into managing modern document-intensive discovery, and Greg regularly advises clients on eDiscovery and ESI-related issues. In addition to Greg’s practice before federal and state courts, he actively represents clients engaged in all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and binding arbitration. Greg was recognized by his peers for inclusion in South Carolina’s Legal Elite for the Construction practice in 2020 and 2021 and as a 2021 and 2022 Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Construction Litigation for South Carolina.

Prior to joining Hudson Lambert Parrott Walker, Greg practiced at one of South Carolina’s largest law firms in Greenville and Columbia, South Carolina. In addition to his construction-focused experience, Greg litigated a wide-array of non-construction industry matters, including unfair trade practices disputes, healthcare, South Carolina election law challenges, trade secret claims, intellectual property litigation, and high-stakes real property disputes.

Greg has collaborated with financial and technical experts, engineers, and design professionals in a variety of litigation contexts. Because of this background and his practice at HLPW, Greg has proven adept at learning his clients’ industries and their relevant internal business practices to provide his clients effective counsel on technically complex construction and contract disputes. Greg also has managed numerous large-scale eDiscovery matters and he continues to draw upon that experience to provide his construction industry clients with cost-effective solutions in response to the rigors of modern discovery practices.

Greg is licensed to practice before all federal and state courts in South Carolina. He is also a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Florida (MDFL) and the Northern District of Florida (NDFL).

Greg is a native of the upstate of South Carolina, and he earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude from Pitt’s Honors College. Greg earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. While at Pitt, Greg was a Brackenridge Research Fellow and studied in China, Vietnam, India, Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, and Venezuela through the Semester at Sea program. At Tulane, Greg was a Senior Justice on the school’s Moot Court Board, where he participated in national mock trial competitions and received the CALI Award for Excellence for the highest grade in Advanced Oil and Gas Law.

Greg appreciates any time he can find to wade the streams and rivers of Southern Appalachia to fly fish. Greg volunteers to assist with regional coldwater conservation projects and has served as a past-president of both the Saluda River and Mountain Bridge Chapters of Trout Unlimited, based in Columbia and Greenville, respectively.
