About Gregory H. Chertoff
Gregory H. Chertoff is Co-Managing Partner of Peckar & Abramson PC’s New York, New York office and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. His practice focuses on Construction Law and Litigation – Construction, representing general contractors, construction managers, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, and project owners in contract negotiations, risk management, and dispute resolution matters.
Greg regularly assists clients with complex construction disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation on projects in New York, across the United States, and internationally. His experience includes matters involving breach of contract, construction and design defects, mechanic’s liens, delay and impact claims, bond claims, and insurance-related issues, including subcontractor default insurance, general liability, builder’s risk, and professional liability. He represents contractors involved in large-scale commercial building, power plant, and alternative energy construction projects.
A significant portion of Greg’s practice involves advising clients on troubled projects at early stages, with the goal of identifying practical and business-oriented solutions before disputes escalate. When disputes cannot be avoided, he represents clients before state and federal courts, mediators, arbitration panels, and appellate courts, including appearances in jurisdictions nationwide through pro hac vice admissions.
Greg frequently develops and presents training programs for construction industry organizations and clients on a wide range of construction law and litigation topics. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in construction-related matters, these programs emphasize practical strategies that project teams can apply during active projects to manage risk and address disputes.
Greg has been recognized for many years by Chambers USA in Construction Law, New York Super Lawyers – Metro in Construction Litigation, The Legal 500, Who’s Who Legal, ALM Martindale-Hubbell (AV Rated), and Best Lawyers. He was named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers for construction law in New York City in 2022.
Since 2021, Greg has served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s School of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, where he teaches a course titled Preventing and Resolving Complex Construction Disputes.
