John G. Cannon

John is a Director in the Real Estate Section. His practice involves the representation of clients in matters related to real estate development, banking, corporate/partnership matters and special purpose districts used to finance development, including municipal utility districts, levee improvement districts, and tax increment financing districts.

He has also represented clients in connection with negotiating Chapter 380 and Chapter 381 development agreements with both cities and counties in the state of Texas.

In addition to John’s representation of special purpose financing districts, he represents lending institutions, institutional investors, real estate developers, homebuilders and others in the commercial real estate and banking industries, in connection with all aspects of real estate acquisition, leasing, financing, preparation and negotiation of ground leases, contracts, development agreements, construction financing and permanent financing documents.

John has been named one of Houston’s Top Lawyers by H Texas each year since 2006, was selected to the Best Lawyers in America list for the years 2012-2021 in the area of Real Estate Law (as published by Woodward White, Inc.), and has received an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
