Karl Paul Mattlage, born December 8, 1940, Waco, Texas. Educated in the public schools of Waco, McGregor, and Crawford, Texas. Graduated from Crawford High School, 1959, honors as "Most Likely To Succeed". Attended college on pre-law major (combination of BBA and JD) at Baylor University, Waco, Texas in the fall of 1960. Studied Economics and Finance in Hankamer School of Business at Baylor. Member of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in United States Air Force, 1963. Graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1964. Entered Baylor University School of Law. Member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Graduated from Baylor School of Law in August 1965 with Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree. Admitted to Texas State Bar, December 1965.
Entered on active duty in U.S. Air Force in 1966 in Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps (JAGC) 1966-1970. Chief of Military Justice, Hq. Air Force Communications Service. Promoted to Captain. Awarded Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding and meritorious service. Admitted to U.S. Court of Military Appeals 1969. Honorably discharged 1970. Appointed as Commissioner, Colorado Transportation Commission, 1989-1992, by Colorado Governor Roy Romer (Vice-chairman 1992). Elected to Steamboat Springs School Board, Colorado, 1986-1990.
