M. Alex Carver

Alex Carver represents businesses, executives, trade associations, and state and local governments in high-stakes litigation. He tries cases, argues appeals, and briefs complex legal issues in Tennessee and nationwide.

Alex litigates a wide range of business disputes—including contract, tort, and fiduciary‑duty claims; restrictive‑covenant disputes; and ownership and governance disputes—as well as challenges to government regulations for trade associations and regulated businesses, commercial real estate disputes, land‑use and zoning disputes with local governments, antitrust cases, constitutional claims, and statutory interpretation issues. He regularly briefs and argues appeals and critical motions involving novel issues of state and federal law. He has represented clients at every level of the federal and state judiciaries, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and all Tennessee appellate courts. He also represents clients in arbitrations and in administrative proceedings before government agencies.

Before joining the firm, Alex served in the Tennessee Solicitor General’s Office, where he handled appellate matters at all levels of the federal and state courts. He also advised state officials on significant legal matters.

Alex clerked for Chief Judge William H. Pryor Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge R. David Proctor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He graduated Order of the Coif from Vanderbilt Law School, where he served as Editor in Chief of the Vanderbilt Law Review. He graduated summa cum laude from Carson-Newman University with majors in biochemistry, religion, and philosophy.
