Biography
About Matthew A. Grubman
What drives me every day is knowing uncaring companies are doing what they’re doing. Their objective is to make money. People’s lives and health don’t figure into the equation for them. And that’s exactly why I do what I do, why Weitz & Luxenberg does what it does. We go after the companies putting lives in danger. We use every legal strategy available, do our due diligence, and give everything we’ve got to achieve the best results for our clients. That means getting you the compensation you deserve.
Matthew Grubman has joined Weitz & Luxenberg’s New Jersey team of knowledgeable asbestos and mesothelioma litigators. He is handling talc asbestos cases. These cases are for our clients who developed mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos-containing talcum powder products.
Helping People is Key
Mr. Grubman didn’t originally set out to become an attorney. He initially was drawn to nonprofit groups and served as a youth worker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at a nonprofit in rural Montana. He realized a law degree would allow him to help people in any number of ways.
“My career has come together in a surprisingly fortuitous way,” Mr. Grubman admits. “I am glad everything has turned out the way it has.
“At Weitz & Luxenberg, I have the opportunity to work with a great group of people. What we’re doing feels like a collaboration. We’re all aiming for the same objectives — to give our clients the best representation possible and secure the compensation they deserve.”
Assisting Personal Injury Clients
“Before joining Weitz & Luxenberg, I spent more than 11 years working for a prominent personal injury law firm in Philadelphia,” Mr. Grubman says. “I enjoyed working there, but I was looking for new challenges. When the opportunity to join Weitz & Luxenberg came up, I knew this was the right move. Everything seemed to fall into place.
“Primarily, I spent my time representing victims injured in motor vehicle accidents and premises liability. I independently handled several hundred personal injury cases in Pennsylvania and New Jersey,” Mr. Grubman continues.
Working with Clients Is the Best Part
“Interacting with clients was one of the best parts of working there,” Mr. Grubman explains. “I enjoyed prepping my clients for depositions. I focused on making them feel comfortable throughout the entire legal process, including preparing them for trial.”
“At Weitz & Luxenberg I’m doing very similar work. Everything we do starts with building a safe and trusting relationship with our clients.”
Talcum Powder Contaminated with Asbestos
Weitz & Luxenberg has been taking on new cases involving a particularly disturbing phenomenon. May of our clients receive a mesothelioma diagnosis due to talcum powder contaminated with asbestos. This personal care product has been widely promoted, distributed, and sold for decades.
Even worse, manufacturers claim talcum powder is safe for infants. Millions of consumers have used Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder on their babies, children, and themselves. Our clients are now realizing they were deceived by a company they trusted.
“For decades, Johnson & Johnson knew its baby powder was contaminated with asbestos,” Mr. Grubman insists. “But they didn’t take it off the shelves. And people are still using it. It’s crazy. Every chance I get, I tell people to stop using it.
“In my first two weeks here, I already had half a dozen cases,” Mr. Grubman continues. “These are people who developed mesothelioma after using what they thought was not only safe but healthy.
“Sadly, after all the years I’ve been working in the legal field, I’ve become inured to what companies do when it comes to making money. Nothing else matters to them,” Mr. Grubman emphasizes. “Johnson & Johnson is such a company. Yes, that’s what they’ll do. Put money first.”
Previous Lawsuit Wins
“I have a lot of experience with personal injury cases. And success in getting compensation for my clients,” Mr. Grubman points out.
“In one case involving a car accident, I was able to secure a $2.5 million settlement for my clients. Also, in a dog bite case, I was able to achieve a $1 million settlement.”
“Over the years, my colleagues and I helped arrange tons of settlements involving many plaintiffs. Combined, the settlements awards and verdicts totaled tens of millions of dollars.”
Mr. Grubman is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Western District of Pennsylvania, and New Jersey District Court. His B.S. in human services, education, and public policy was awarded by the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware.
