Matthew Richard Schreck

Matthew Schreck is a partner at Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A., defending clients in both state and federal court in various matters, including catastrophic and complex litigation. His practice focuses on transportation law, construction law, products liability, and premises liability. Prior to practicing, Matthew was a judicial extern for Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan of the United States District Court for the North District of Illinois, where he worked on various cases involving both state and federal law, including employment discrimination and retaliation claims and cases involving municipal entities. In August of 2004, Matthew began his legal career with Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C. in Wheaton, Illinois. In his ten years with Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C., Matthew practiced in both state and federal court, in the areas of civil litigation, subrogation, insurance defense, including trucking liability, automobile accidents, construction accidents, products liability, medical malpractice defense, long term care facility and nursing home defense, premises liability, and the defense of local governmental and municipal entities, including the defense of § 1983 claims, constitutional rights claims, equal protection claims, due process claims, false arrest, search and seizure, retaliation claims, and malicious prosecution.At Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C., Matthew aggressively defended numerous construction, trucking and other companies in catastrophic and complex litigation throughout Illinois and Indiana, including a defendant in the highly publicized Indiana State Fair Litigation. He became a partner at Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C. in 2012. In November of 2014, he joined Momkus McCluskey, LLC in Lisle, Illinois, where he aggressively defended clients in construction, trucking, premises liability, and automobile accident matters.

In 2005, Matthew’s article, “Preventing ‘You’ve Got Mail™’ From Meaning ‘You’ve Been Served’: How Service of Process By E-Mail Does Not Meet Constitutional Procedural Due Process Requirements,” was published in the John Marshall Law Review.

Matthew is originally from Long Island, New York. He resides in Melbourne, Florida with his wife and two children.
