Mike Simpson is a partner in WSHB's Denver office, handling complex civil litigation matters. In addition to construction defect, commercial, and business litigation, Mike assists our national insurance coverage practice by advising and representing domestic and international insurers on first-party property, commercial general liability, and professional errors and omission claims, including interpretation of policy provisions and exclusions and first-party bad faith claims. Mike worked for seven years in Information Technology as a software support analyst and network engineer before law school. His work experience is called upon in relation to issues that arise in the emerging area of cybersecurity and data privacy, including data breach class actions, tech litigation, breach response cases, and state/federal enforcement of data privacy statutes.

Mike graduated from the University of Colorado Law School, where he was a student attorney with the San Luis Valley Acequia Assistance Project and in the Getches-Green Natural Resources, Environmental, and Energy Law Clinic. Mike was Resource Editor of the University of Colorado Law Review and published All Your Data Are Belong to Us: Consumer Data Breach Rights and Remedies in an Electronic Exchange Economy , 87 U. Colo. L. Rev. 669 (2016), which won Colorado Law's 2017 Sandgrund Award for Best Consumer Rights Work. During law school, he interned with Judge Christopher J. Munch of the First Judicial District in Golden, Colorado, and was a Student Honors Intern in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Denver Regional Office. Mike clerked for the Honorable Brian R. Whitney of the Denver District Court before joining the firm.
