Michael E. Geraghty

Mr. Geraghty has been a practicing attorney for 25 years, and, for the past decade and a half, he has been dedicated to defending health professionals and hospitals in medical malpractice and catastrophic birth injury cases. He also represents healthcare facilities in premises liability cases. Unlike most of his medical malpractice defense-attorney peers, Mr. Geraghty spent years representing clients as a former plaintiff’s attorney. This “both sides of the courtroom” background provides him with the knowledge and experience necessary to give his defense clients a penetrating analysis of both the law and the medicine and to identify the pertinent issues and strengths of their cases.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Geraghty entered the law with one main goal in mind: to treat clients with respect, honesty, fairness, and kindness. Today, too many conflicts and disputes can no longer be resolved through reasonable discussion, which he would prefer. But, when the dispute must be resolved by a judge or a jury, he listens to his clients carefully, understands their needs, and represents them zealously. They consistently report that he is smart, hardworking, and always goes the extra mile.

Mr. Geraghty is a member of the firm’s Marketing Committee and Pro Bono Committee. He concentrates his pro bono service on the Pope Francis Center’s Legal Aid Clinic, where he volunteers and coordinates and arranges other volunteer attorneys from Kitch. The Pope Francis Center’s Legal Aid Clinic provides a basic level of legal advice and counsel for Project H.E.L.P. (Homeless Experiencing Legal Protection).

Mr. Geraghty has been a member of the Michigan Society of Healthcare Management (MSRM) since 2008, is currently the co-chair of the Government Issues Committee, a member of the Education Committee, and a director at large on the MSHRM Board of Directors.

Beyond Kitch

When not defending his clients, Mr. Geraghty loves to spend time with his wife, son, and the family dog. Whenever he can, he likes to ski, play golf, and travel. He is also deeply involved in his son’s travel soccer club team.
