Mr. Dilworth is proficient in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark prosecution, transactions and due diligence, litigation, post-grant proceedings, licensing of intellectual property, portfolio management, and counselling and opinions (including freedom to operate, infringement and validity opinions). He is experienced in international patent law and worldwide patent prosecution including Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and European Patent Office practices as well as inter partes matters (e.g., nullity actions, oppositions, invalidations and cancellations).

Accomplishments

• Launching and managing a successful IP law firm;
• Leading and managing an in-house IP department for Chemtura Corporation;
• Managing a global portfolio of patents for a publicly traded company with over $1.5 billion per year in sales;
• Negotiating a joint development agreement involving complex IP issues and the expenditure by the client of millions of dollars under the agreement;
• Representing a privately held company as its sole IP counsel and managing the company’s 1,000-plus patent and trademark portfolio worldwide;
• Substantially increasing the IP portfolio size and diversity for a major international company;
• Drafting and prosecuting hundreds of US patent applications in various industries;
• Managing a 2,500-plus global corporate IP patent portfolio;
• Representing a client on the IP aspects of the divestiture of a $10 million product line;
• Filing over 60 new US patent applications in two years for a client’s business division;
• Negotiating IP, IT and commercial agreements including supply agreements, licenses, joint development agreements, secrecy agreements, software licenses and IT service agreements.
