Mike R. Turner

For the past two decades, Mike has been assisting clients develop and defend their patent portfolios. A former Army officer and Ford Motor Company design engineer, clients appreciate Mike’s organized approach to problems and his ability to communicate with inventors across a wide swath of technologies.

Mike is a full spectrum patent attorney and is himself a patentee. On the prosecution side, Mike has procured patents in nearly every art group other than bio/pharma and has an almost perfect record on appeal. He has drafted and given countless opinions on issues such as invalidity, patentability, and infringement, and often supports M&A work relating to IP evaluations.

On the litigation front, Mike is a member of the local federal trial bar and has led patent cases on the side of both patentees and accused in courts throughout the country and the ITC. Mike has deposed inventors, CEOs, other patent attorneys, and countless experts and taken their testimony at trial. He has also successfully maintained and overturned verdicts before the Federal Circuit. Mike strives to focus on victory as the client defines it, often arriving at creative business solutions to complex situations.

At the firm, Mike is the Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Dedicated to giving back, he sits on a number of charitable boards and founded and operates the Mowen Scholars program, which raises money to help send kids to college on behalf of a fallen classmate. Mike also practices education law pro bono for parents of special needs children, helping them obtain access to a meaningful education under the federal Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act.
