Patrick J. Murphy

Patrick ("PJ") Murphy is a Partner at HPM&B. Mr. Murphy has spent his entire career representing major hospital facilities, academic medical centers, individual physicians and other healthcare professionals in complex, high exposure, medical liability actions. Mr. Murphy's practice focuses on an extensive array of medical specialties, including obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, colorectal surgery, orthopedic surgery, surgical oncology, cardiology and psychiatry. Mr. Murphy represents his clients at all phases of pre-trial litigation and has successfully tried cases to verdict at trial.

Mr. Murphy has successfully argued numerous dispositive motions throughout the New York Metropolitan area that resulted in dismissals for his clients without the need to go to trial. Mr. Murphy has also successfully handled appeals before the Appellate Courts of New York State. Mr. Murphy is particularly proud of the multiple Frye motions he has drafted and argued, wherein he successfully challenged the theories raised by the opposing party's experts as not being based upon accepted principles in the medical and scientific community.

Mr. Murphy has provided several lectures and mock trial presentations to physicians and hospitals regarding the implications of various issues in medicine and litigation. He has also given lectures for CLE programs on Risk Management issues pertaining to adverse and preventable events in healthcare.
