Born and raised in Biloxi, Wells embarked on his academic journey by graduating as valedictorian from Ocean Springs High School in 1984. He furthered his education at Tulane University, where he achieved his Bachelor of Arts in history with honors in 1988. During his time at Tulane, Wells was enrolled in the university's joint BA/JD degree program, culminating in the awarding of his Juris Doctorate with honors from Tulane University in 1990.

Wells's commitment to legal excellence extended beyond the classroom. He served as an Administrative Justice on the Moot Court Board from 1989 to 1990 and was a dedicated member of the Moot Court Board, beginning his involvement in 1988.

Following his graduation from law school in 1990, Wells commenced his legal career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he practiced until 1994. At that juncture, he returned to his roots in Biloxi, joining Rushing & Guice, P.L.L.C. in 2002 and earning the esteemed position of a member of the firm.

Wells's impressive legal career spans multiple jurisdictions. He gained admission to the Louisiana Bar in 1990 and the Mississippi Bar in 1992, subsequently earning entry into all the United States District Courts in both states, along with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His expanding legal reach led to admissions to the bars of New York, Georgia, and the US Court of International Trade.

A pinnacle achievement in Wells's career came on May 1, 2017, when he was admitted to practice and argue cases before the Supreme Court of the United States, an honor reserved for a select few in the legal profession.

Beyond his legal practice, Wells has actively engaged in community service and involvement. He has served as a board member for local Chamber of Commerce and Civitan organizations, further underscoring his commitment to the betterment of his community. His participation extends to various other organizations, including active membership in local bar associations, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Mississippi Bankruptcy Conference, the Mississippi Bar, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the Harrison County Bar Association.

Throughout his illustrious career, Wells has assumed leadership roles as President of the Harrison County Bar Association and the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce, demonstrating his dedication to local service and social groups.
