Robert J. Duffett

After a two year battle with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer, Rob Duffett passed away on August 11, 2013. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Upon learning of his diagnosis, Rob partnered with attorney Martha Mothershead (see her bio on our site) to maintain ongoing matters and transition his landlord-tenant practice into her capable hands.

A lifelong resident of Virginia, Rob appeared regularly in the state courts of all Northern Virginia jurisdictions and successfully argued before the Virginia Supreme Court. His practice emphasized litigation with a focus on leasing issues relating to landlord-tenant disputes and the drafting and review of commercial and residential leases.

Rob was a frequent speaker on landlord-tenant law. Some of the organizations he addressed include The Virginia Sheriff's Civil Enforcement Association, the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, and United States Department of State. He was a featured speaker at continuing legal education seminars relating to commercial and residential leasing and was quoted in the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal online.
