About Scott C. Glovsky
Scott Glovsky is one of the most experienced, respected, and trusted insurance lawyers in the nation. With offices in Pasadena and Claremont, California, the Law Offices of Scott Glovsky was founded in 1999 and specializes in insurance bad faith, catastrophic personal injury, health-related litigation, sexual abuse, and trial work. Our firm helps ordinary people suffering because of the negligent and bad acts of organizations and corporations. Our clients have included health insurance policyholders denied needed care for brain injuries and organ transplants; seniors who have been physically and financially abused: and numerous accident victims harmed by faulty products and negligent individuals and companies. Scott received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from Cornell Law School.
Scott Glovsky is nationally recognized as an advocate for the rights of the injured and for insurance policyholders. Scott appeared in the film SiCKO and has provided advice relating to health insurance in People Magazine. His cases have been profiled on CNN and other major networks. He is a repeat guest on AirTalk with Larry Mantle. Scott's cases have been profiled on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 and Paula Zahn Now, NBC News, CBS Evening News, ABC News, Good Morning America, Univision and various other television and radio programs.
Scott has received honors and awards for his work on health insurance bad faith cases. He was named California Lawyer Magazine’s 2015 California Attorney of the Year Award for his work on behalf of thousands of children living with autism who were wrongfully denied coverage for essential therapies by their insurance companies. In 2010, The Consumer Attorneys’ Association of Los Angeles nominated Scott for its Trial Lawyer of the Year award. The Consumer Attorneys’ Association of California awarded Scott its Street Fighter of the Year Award in 2008. In 2007, The Consumer Attorneys’ Association of Los Angeles awarded Scott its President’s Award of Merit. And Scott has been a Super Lawyer every year since 2006.
Scott has been a faculty member of the Trial Lawyers College since 2015 where he teaches lawyers from around the country how to successfully try cases. He is the author of the book Fighting Health Insurance Denials: A Primer for Lawyers, the training manual and reference book for lawyers fighting health insurance denials. Scott is the host of Trial Lawyer Talk, a long-running, educational podcast featuring in-depth personal interviews and sound advice from some of the country's best trial lawyers.
Scott frequently lectures and writes in the area of insurance law, primarily on the topic of health insurance liability. He has lectured on health insurance issues for organizations including Mealeys, the Consumer Attorneys of California, the Consumer Attorneys' Association of Los Angeles ("CAALA"), and numerous physician and consumer organizations. He has published several articles, primarily in the area of insurance law, in publications including California Litigation, The Advocate, Mealey's Litigation Report: Insurance, Forum, and Mealey's Managed Care Liability Report.
Our firm's cases have affected millions of insurance policyholders through forcing insurance companies to change their behavior. Some notable achievements include:
- Exposing Aetna’s review practices of medical directors not reviewing medical records before denying treatment through litigation that led to national news and investigations into Aetna by the United States Senate, California Department of Managed Health Care, California Department of Insurance, Colorado state regulators, Washington state regulators and Connecticut state regulators. For more information you can see these articles: Aetna settles suit alleging claim-denying medical director never read patient’s records; Leading Senate Democrats want answers from Aetna CEO; California launches investigation following stunning admission by Aetna medical director; Aetna inquiry widens over ex-medical director’s comments; When insurers require patients to stop treatment.
- Forcing Kaiser to stop systemically denying Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and speech therapy to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This decision impacted 45,000 kids with Kaiser insurance and provided a $9,290,000 settlement for class members and autism research. For this case, Scott was given California Lawyer Magazine’s California Attorney Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) award and was a finalist for the 2014 Consumer Attorney of the Year Award from the Consumer Attorneys of California.
- Getting Kaiser to provide over 100,000 California members living with severe mental illness access to medically necessary residential treatment as part of a court-approved class action settlement.
- Recovering roughly $25 million from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California based on their misleading California members about the doctors within their networks.
- Exposing how insurance companies systematically pressure hospitals to discharge patients with severe, and often fatal, eating disorders. His case put insurance companies on notice that they can no longer victimize young women without suffering serious consequences. For this case, Scott won Consumer Attorneys of California 2008 Street Fighter of the Year award. This award is given to a lawyer who helped create a more just society by overcoming incredible odds and without regard to profit or personal benefit.
