Sierra Yanush

Sierra has practiced exclusively in family law since being called to the Alberta Bar in 2016. She is dedicated to working with individuals to find practical solutions to their legal challenges. Sierra emphasizes building strong relationships with her clients through clear communication and setting realistic expectations. She thrives on the complexities of family law and is committed to delivering strategic and effective legal solutions tailored to her clients’ needs.

Sierra is a trained mediator through the Alberta Family Mediation Society and an arbitrator through the National Family Law Arbitration Course. She offers mediation and arbitration services to clients seeking to resolve disputes outside of court through alternative dispute resolution. To support accessibility, she provides these services at reduced hourly rates.

In recognition of her professional excellence, Sierra was named by Best Lawyers: Canada as “One to Watch” in family law in 2024 and in family law and family law arbitration in 2025. This award recognizes lawyers, who are earlier in their careers, for outstanding professional excellence in private practice.

Sierra has been actively involved with the Canadian Bar Association, serving on the Family Law Alberta South Executive since 2020, with her term continuing until 2027. She was also elected to the Canadian Bar Association – Alberta Board of Directors for a two-year term beginning in 2024. Sierra has published and lectured for the Legal Education Society of Alberta on topics such as child support considerations for children with disabilities, determining income when the payor is self-employed, and the impact of the status quo in interim parenting applications.

Sierra holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy from Queen’s University (2010), a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Wilfrid Laurier University (2011), and a Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary (2015).

Outside of her legal practice, Sierra is passionate about exploring the mountains on foot or skis, reading, and spending time with her three sisters. She actively volunteers with the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association and has previously contributed to the Wildwood Community Association Board of Directors, Kids Up Front, and the Association of Women Lawyers.
