About Tammy Cauley Rivers
Tammy Rivers litigates across multiple practice areas, representing victims and survivors of global terrorism, as well as consumers, businesses and communities burdened with harmful effects of corporate and other misconduct.
Tammy represents terrorism victims in litigation against al Qaeda and its sponsors in Saudi Arabia and others who are accused of providing material support to Osama bin Laden that enabled hijackers to attack the U.S. on September 11, 2001. Her anti-terrorism casework also includes fighting for U.S. military service members and contractors injured by EFP roadside bombs while serving in the Iraq war.
In the class action In re: Blackbaud Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, Tammy represents consumers affected by the 2020 ransomware attack on Blackbaud and resulting data breach.
She is a member of the team leading the multidistrict litigation In re Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation and similar cases pending in California state court for children, teens and their families against social media platforms such as Meta and Instagram. Plaintiffs allege the defendant social media products are defectively designed because they are designed to maximize screen time, which can lead to addictive behavior in adolescents and result in severe emotional and physical harms as well as death.
As an attorney on Motley Rice’s opioid litigation team, Tammy represents dozens of states, counties, cities, towns, and townships in litigation targeting the alleged deceptive marketing and over-distribution of highly addictive opioid drugs, a contended cause of the nationwide opioid crisis.
Before pursuing her law degree, Tammy was a senior paralegal at Motley Rice on tobacco, asbestos, anti-terrorism and lead paint poisoning cases. While in law school, Tammy worked for a time as a research assistant focusing on bioethics. She also clerked for the S.C. Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division.
