Biography

About Thomas Colin

Mr. Colin, who is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a Member of its Board of Managers, practices statewide, having tried cases from Stamford to New London. Mr. Colin was recently named as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in all of New England by Superlawyers Magazine. He also served as lead trial counsel in 2007 for the successful father in what is reportedly the longest child custody trial in United States history, spanning over eight months, a complex case involving the retrieval and analysis of electronic computer evidence and the evaluation of serious health issues. He is former Co-Chair of the American Bar Association's Family Law Section Ethics, Professionalism and Grievance Committee, an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association's Family Law Section Executive Committee, where he is the immediate past chairman of the Connecticut Bar Association Family Law Section. In addition, he is the former chair of the Family Law Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association. He is co-editor of Connecticut Family Law Citations and has lectured and written both nationally and in Connecticut on family law issues in general and trial practice in particular.

Mr. Colin frequently speaks to the Connecticut Bar Association Family Law Section on the recent developments in Connecticut Family Law. He is a member of the Connecticut Delegation to the Tri-State Leadership Conference to improve the decision-making process in high conflict child custody cases, sponsored by, among others, the Division of Law and Psychiatry of the Yale University School of Medicine and the Children and the Law Program of Massachusetts General Hospital. Mr. Colin, who has appeared on local radio and national television, also serves the Connecticut Superior Court as a Special Master, including at the Regional Family Trial Docket in Middletown (where contested child custody cases are heard), and as the court-appointed attorney for children in contested custody cases.

Finally, Mr. Colin, who also serves as a member of the Judicial Reform Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association, has the reputation of being a talented courtroom trial lawyer who practices with the highest degree of professionalism. His philosophy is that parties to a dissolving marriage should make every possible effort to settle their case amicably and peacefully but, if they cannot, then he will resolve the case the hard way and try the case in an efficient and ethical manner.

Mr. Colin has presented as a faculty member in presenting the following Continuing Legal Education programs:
