Timothy M. Ortolani

Timothy Ortolani focuses his practice in the areas of general liability, maritime, professional liability, and commercial litigation. Mr. Ortolani represents clients in matters that often involve issues arising on vessels, at ports and within marine terminals, and which frequently implicate the Jones Act and the Longshore & Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act. Other matters handled by Mr. Ortolani involve the contested liability of various non-profit organizations, as well as general lease and business disputes and various professionals’ obligations in connection with same.

Mr. Ortolani has experience litigating in state and federal court, as well as in both the private and public sectors. While at KDV from 2017-2019, some of his successes include helping to obtain summary judgment on behalf of a commercial client in a multi-¬million-dollar lease dispute, as well as on behalf of a maritime client in a Jones Act case and on behalf of a foreign shipping company in a negligence action. He also assisted in obtaining dismissals on behalf of several non¬profit organizations in an international custody dispute, outcomes that were later affirmed on appeal.

Mr. Ortolani also has experience in the public sector. He most recently served as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. While there, he represented the State of New Jersey in various appeals, obtained guilty verdicts in several bench trials and participated in a number of other successful prosecutions.

Prior to joining KDV in 2017, Mr. Ortolani clerked for the Honorable Thomas R. Vena, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Essex County.
