About Trey Porter
Trey Porter is one of the highest-rated criminal defense attorneys in Texas. Nationally recognized, Mr. Porter relentlessly fights to protect and assert his clients’ constitutional rights in and out of courtrooms across the state.
Born and raised in East Tennessee, Mr. Porter attended public school in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where his mother is an elementary school teacher. Growing up, he sold Christmas trees, mowed lawns, and worked at a local hotel.
Mr. Porter attended Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, TN, where he majored in Political Science (‘06 B.S.), and double-minored in Communications and Global Studies. While at MTSU, Mr. Porter was inducted into the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
After graduation, Mr. Porter moved to the Czech Republic. Living in the capital city of Prague, he taught English to business executives in the financial sector, while traveling as often as possible.
In 2008, Mr. Porter began his legal studies at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he was active in the Student Bar Association and the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association. While in law school, Mr. Porter won multiple advocacy competitions, worked at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, and clerked with a San Antonio criminal defense firm.
As a criminal defense lawyer, Mr. Porter has spent the past 10 years defending the rights of Texans facing charges ranging from DWI to Murder. In 2017, he opened Trey Porter Law to continue passionately representing individuals facing criminal charges in a more client-focused way.
Voted by his peers as a Best Lawyer every year since 2015, Mr. Porter has received recognition from Super Lawyers, and the National Trial Lawyers Association as a Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Lawyer, he also holds a 10.0 Superb rating from AVVO, where attorneys are rated based on skillful litigation, client satisfaction, peer endorsements, and positive results.
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Porter supports Texas Public Radio, the Great Smoky Mountains Association, and the YMCA.
