Prior to becoming a teammate at the firm, Tyler retired from the United States Army, serving first as an Armor Officer and then as a Judge Advocate General (JAG). He applies his current civilian knowhow with his past military experience to assist Defense Health Agency-affiliated uniformed and civilian healthcare providers navigate license reviews involving certain types of clinically adverse actions and active-duty injury/death reviews.

•Trial Experience:
•Obtained a defense verdict for a pediatric anesthesiologist in a two-week trial alleging negligent intubation and airway management in the MRI suite, resulting in the death of a 29-day-old infant.
•Obtained a defense verdict for a defendant emergency physician in a case alleging negligent failure to diagnose aortic dissection, resulting in the death of a 47 year old patient the day after being treated and released from the emergency department.
•Obtained a defense verdict for a psychiatrist in an 8-day trial, in a case alleging medical malpractice and wrongful death.
•Relevant Military Legal Experience:
•JUL 2014 - JUL 2016. Chief of Criminal Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters, U.S. Army-Alaska, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Responsible for all Army prosecutions for all combat units assigned to Alaska (bases at Anchorage and Fairbanks). Led a team of 5 attorneys and 10 support staff through well over 100 courts-martial including 63 contested trials, of which 8 were full jury trials. Cases involved child murder, adult and child rape/sexual assault, long-term domestic violence, child pornography, child abuse, drug distribution, fraud, desertion, and AWOL.
•JUN 2009 - JUL 2011. Prosecutor, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.Successfully prosecuted 37 courts-martial including 18 contested criminal cases. Cases involved rape/sexual assault, drug distribution on an Army base in Afghanistan, counterfeiting, fraud, child pornography, and military-specific crimes. 100% conviction rate on all cases taken to court.
•DEPLOYMENTS. War stories are available upon request, preferably over a beer:
•NOV 2012 - JUL 2013. Laghman and Kapisa Provinces, Afghanistan (rural mountain valleys between Kabul and Jalalabad). Operation Enduring Freedom XIII/XIV Senior Legal Advisor, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Led a deployed legal office consisting of one trial attorney and five support staff. Advised combat commanders and their staffs on planned combat missions and reactive kinetic strikes for compliance with the Law of Armed Conflict and international law. Performed a regular “helicopter circuit” assisting US Soldiers stationed at remote mountain bases with all manner of legal advice including family law matters, buying a house, and creditor issues, to name a few. Processed claims from local Afghans for property damaged caused by US combat operations. Advised Afghan National Army JAGs on trial advocacy, criminal case preparation, and unit internal investigations.
•MAR 2004 - MAR 2005. Baghdad, Iraq. Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Officer-in-Charge, Green Zone Interrogation Facility, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (Task Force Baghdad).In charge of facility responsible for care and questioning of all non-top secret-level detainees captured by special forces and unconventional units based in the Green Zone as well as all detainees captured by infantry and armor units assigned to his brigade. Acted as intelligence analyst, warden, and judge for 878 detainees. His facility was lauded as model program by Department of Defense Inspector General and International Red Cross inspectors.
•NOV 2001 - MAR 2002: Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait. Senior Tank Platoon Leader, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Calvary Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.
